Another amazing documentary series, this one on JODOROWSKY, the magic that floats in the rivers of youtube. JODOROWSKY directed El topo, Holy Mountain and Santa Sangre. Some of the most visually captivating and bizarre images ever put to film. Exquisite. At one point he was set to direct DUNE. It is one of the greatest misses in film ever. The design was being done by H.R. GIger (He created alien, but his other stuff is even more terrifying.) The design would also be handled by Moebius (a comic book illustrator.) The soundtrack was to be done by Pink floyd. The Baron played by Orson welles. The emperor by salvador Dali. Feyd Rautha by Mick Jagger. And Duke Leto by David Carradine.

“Dalí agrees with much enthusiasm the idea to play the Emperor of the galaxy. He wants to film in Cadaquès and to use as throne a toilet made up of two intersected dolphins. The tails will form the feet and the two open mouths will be used one to receive the “wee”, the other to receive the “excrement”. Dalí thinks that it is of terrible bad taste to mix the “wee” and the “excrement”.
It is said to him that I will need him for seven days… Dalí answers that God made the universe in seven days and that Dalí, while not being less than God, must cost a fortune: 100,000 dollars an hour.

I saw an interview with moebius once, him saying JODOROWSKy would pick certain outfits by standing near a large bookcase filled with many design books. He would think of an article of clothing, then close his eyes and reach for a book and open on a random page. Perfect, royal purple, this is the color top we will use he’d exclaim. The designs looked as though they were going to be a wealth of colors in contrast with the monotone desert settings. Everytime i read about this movie a little bit of sadness fills me. You almost feel like you can see it, watch it, but it will never be.
