GQ has an article on their site about Scorcese and the making of Goodfellas. They interviewed sixty people involved with the project, all the stars, and it seems like everyone else.
All those interviews are put together in sections relating to the movie, each person saying a sentence here and a sentence there. It covers everything from real gangsters on set, the writing, the Steadicam shot, the realism of the cocaine scene when Henry is being chased by helicopters and the fight for artistic freedom to the wardrobe and the people who were almost cast. (John Malkovich in Deniro’s role, Tom Cruise in Liotta’s role and Madonna in Karen’s role….) Anyway, its a little long. But it’s worth it and only stands to leave you wanting to watch Goodfellas…..Yet a-fucking-gain.
